Summer 2020 Intensive Course in Research Writing
We are pleased to announce our 13th annual Intensive Course in Research Writing. The course will take place 6 July 2020 through 24 July 2020 at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA.
This three-week course is designed mainly to help researchers increase their proficiency in writing and publishing scientific papers. It also includes instruction on related topics, such as giving oral presentations, preparing poster presentations, and writing grant proposals. To benefit fully from the course, participants should have a drafted paper that is ready to revise or should have research that is fully analyzed and ready to write up.
The course meets 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. During other times, participants complete homework and meet with instructors for individualized feedback. Participants can use library facilities on campus.
This course is open to both US and international participants. To enroll, international participants must provide evidence of English proficiency at least equivalent to that commonly required for US graduate school admission.
The fee to attend the course is $1,500. Attendees wanting to stay an extra week (through July 31) to work on their writing and receive personalized instruction can do so for $250, thus paying a total of $1,750 for the course. The course fee covers the cost of the instruction, including the textbook. It does not cover associated costs (such as transportation, lodging, food, and health insurance); these costs must be paid by those taking the course or their institutions. Relatively inexpensive lodging is available on or near campus.
The course is intended largely for early-career researchers, including postdoctoral fellows and recently appointed faculty members. It also can aid science editors. Experienced faculty members sometimes attend in preparation to give similar instruction to their own students.
We welcome requests for further information about the course.
